We, Szilvi and Zoli, do not just want to offer a place to stay, but a piece of the lifestyle, knowledge, and tranquility that makes this region truly special to us. At Berkenyés Kuckó, we share a slice of the world we live in: the silence, flavors, and nature-inspired rhythm of the gateway to Göcsej and the Őrség region.
Why choose us?
Because we believe in personal attention, flexibility, and that true relaxation happens when everyone can arrive and unwind at their own pace.
Our guesthouse is the perfect base if you want to explore the landscapes around the lakes of Őrség, or the nearby Slovenian and Austrian sights—but it is just as wonderful if you simply long for some quiet relaxation.
The Mónok House is a more than 120-year-old civic-style building whose walls once hosted the community life of the village.
An interesting fact is that the cellar beneath the house used to serve as the ice cellar of Zalalövő: the village's ice was stored here, covered with straw, to provide cooling even during the greatest summer heat.
Preserving this heritage and the original structure built from large-sized bricks, we created the guesthouse you see today.
As a herbal engineer and natural cosmetics expert, Szilvi knows the treasures of the garden and the forest inside out.
For us, "organic" is not a trendy label but a natural attitude: we do not use insecticides in the garden, preferring to let nature’s own order work, allowing ladybugs and praying mantises to help restore the balance.
We tend to more than 200 types of plants in the garden, from which special jams, syrups, and teas are made. If you are interested in the world of herbs, mushroom foraging, or would like a glimpse into the secrets of homemade natural cosmetics, Szilvi will gladly introduce you to this world.
As a chef, Zoli ensures that you get to know not only the landscape but also the local flavors of Zala County up close.
Whether it's a hearty homemade breakfast with our own cheeses, ajvar, and fresh delicacies, or a rich dinner, the food here is prepared with real expertise, care, and love.
Dishes made in the traditional oven, the local "dödölle" (potato dumplings), wild game dishes, and regional flavors all bring the land you have arrived in closer to you.
Furthermore, the ingredients come either from our own garden or from local producers, making every meal an integral part of the local experience.
